12 Mar catching my breath
Two weeks ago, about an hour after I last posted on the blog, a drunk driver plowed through 30 feet of our concrete wall and into our backyard at 65 mph. It happened at 11:30 AM, just as I was about to send my kids and six of their friends into the backyard to play. We had just arrived home from preschool and were hosting a playdate.
It could have been horrific. The car came to rest next to their swing set. Concrete blocks flew 100 feet. If it had happened even 60 seconds later…I can’t even let myself imagine. But everyone is okay, praise God. We are SO SO SO fortunate. The teenagers that were in the car were fortunate, too. None of them was seriously hurt. The 17-year-old driver was arrested and charged with DUI and reckless endangerment. I pray he knows how lucky he is, how close he came to ruining so many lives, not just his own.
We’re getting everything fixed and back to normal here, but I haven’t had much time or energy to update the blog. We’re working with the city to make our street safer, because this actually was not the first incident of reckless driving near our house. It was a dramatic climax to a series of close calls.
This week is spring break, which means lots of playdates and craft projects and being outdoors before the heat becomes unbearable.
We are busy, but good. And exciting things are happening. I will be back online more next week to tell you all about them.
Thanks for your patience.
