04 Jul celebrating the 4th in style
I bought the kids new sunglasses.
I got them for the long drive and to protect little eyes from the high-altitude sunshine, and didn’t consider just how stinkin’ cute they’d look. They have not taken them off, and I am basically grinning every time I glance over at my children. My cheeks are sore.
So, this morning we loaded the kids into the bike trailer and rode the long, winding, steep mountain roads down to Main Street, Breckenridge for the 4th of July Parade. We exceeded the posted speed limit, which is to say, the kids thought we were literally flying. They couldn’t contain themselves. Above the sound of wind in my ears I heard their belly laughs. Who needs Disneyland when you can go 40 mph in a bike trailer?
Side note: Later in the day, we had to bike back UP those roads, which was probably the best cardiovascular workout I’ve had in months.
The parade did not disappoint.
The weather was warm enough to remind you it’s summer. The floats were a perfect mix of whimsical and patriotic. And candy rained down into the chubby hands of my children.
After the parade, we ate pizza al fresco, colored pictures of flying princess ponies, and B took a poll and decided that we should basically stay on vacation forever.
