21 Dec easy, not-too-sweet sugar cookies
- 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter (3 sticks), softened
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 5 cups all-purpose flour (unbleached)
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- pinch of nutmeg
Cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs and vanilla. Stir in the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking powder, and salt and mix until dough forms.
Chill the dough for an hour (at least), and then form into balls and flatten slightly with a spoon or glass. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet @375 for 8-10 minutes, until golden brown.
Makes about 5 dozen.
